Investment Projects

After completing the no-cost projects in your facility, consider investing in modifications to your lighting. Selecting which modifications to make will depend on your specific conditions, such as the existing lighting levels, the tasks or types of areas which must be lighted, and your economic criteria.

Many lighting efficiency projects require only a small investment. In other cases, a more substantial investment is needed, but savings in energy costs often produce returns that are more than competitive with the best investments in the financial market. For instance, a 50 percent return (2-year payback) is not unusual for relamping with lower wattage lamps. Before you invest, calculate the payback period and consider life cycle costs to see if the project will be a good investment.
